Recycling

Nearly 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled. The unreleased energy contained in the average dustbin could power a television for 5,000 hours.

On average, nearly 20% of the money we pay for a product goes towards the packaging, which, ultimately ends up as rubbish. As much as 50% of the waste in the average dustbin could be composted. We pay expensive amounts for our local government services to take away our rubbish. Governments, must surely, start and give us an incentive to recycle instead of continually increasing our charges for rubbish collection.

Most glass bottles are now ‘throw away' do you take the time to recycle them? Many years ago a deposit was charged on bottles why has this system been dropped. In Montreal, a deposit is charged on drinks cans (including Coke Cola). When you visit the warehouse there are machines which flatten the cans and produce a credit ticket which is deducted from your bill after you have done your shopping. A very good incentive to recycle...why don't we do it here in the UK?

Plastic bottles can take up to 500 years to decompose. A frightening thought. Is the drink contained in this plastic bottle contaminated with chemicals from the plastic bottle?

Plastic bags are killing our marine animals. Plastic, in my opinion, is literally killing our environment. Why don't we have more bio-degradable plastic containers?

It is a difficult routine to get used to but we must recycle to protect our precious environment.
