Fitness and Exercise

Keeping fit has certainly been a big part of my life.....exercise the whole body, including your brain. We must exercise the brain as we would take a dog for a walk...also listen  to your body to find a form of exercise which suits you.

The sheer pleasure of walking in the open air is wonderful - as long as you walk in places where the air is clean - like the coastal walks around my home in Lyme Regis or in the mountains which are not far from Montreal in Canada.

Regular exercise helps your heart, maintain healthy joints and it helps clear your head and fill you with positive energy. Choose what you enjoy- whether it is competitive sport, working out in the gym, running or toning exercises like Yoga.

Regular physical exercise (including sexual), boosts the immune system and helps prevent diseases such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity. It also improves mental health and helps prevent depression.

Childhood obesity is a growing global concern and the lack of physical exercise is one of the major problems. All too many children sit in front of a 'screen' be it TV, DVD, XBox or computer.

Exercise is a 'stressor' and the stresses of exercise have a catabolic effect on the body. Too much exercise can be harmful. The body parts exercised need at least a day of rest, which is why most health experts say one should exercise every other day or 3 times a week. When exercising, it becomes even more important to have a good diet.

Regular sleep is essential for our survival. Sleep is the natural state of bodily rest. Sufficient sleep benefits, alertness, memory and problem solving and our overall health and well-being.
