Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a centuries old treatment originating from China.  Authorities in China believe it is between 5,000 and 7,000 years old.

It has been used for both prevention and treatment of illness, addictions, allergies, skin problems, pain relief, and during the last 20 years, it has been successfully used in some Chinese hospitals as an alternative to chemical anaesthesia.

Acupuncture works on the body’s energy flow, which courses over 12 meridians or channels that are normally well balanced in a healthy person.  If the energy flows are disrupted, it can affect the whole body system, producing pain or symptoms of illness. Early Chinese physicians discovered that within the energy network just below the surface of our skin, there are over 1000 acupoints.

By utilising a combination of acupoints which directly relate to different functions of our body, acupuncture seeks to restore normality to the body’s energy balance.  The main way of doing this, in modern times, is through the use of needles inserted into the key acupoints. The intended effect is to increase circulation and balance energy (Qi) within the body.  Acupuncture must be administered by a qualified practitioner.
